Meet The Doctor

Dr. Beverly Chang

“I love the older adult population and their wisdom in life. It is a reward every day to hear their stories and to take care of them in their advancing age. Too often, physicians do not take the time to understand the complexities of medical complications in older adults and how this affects treatment planning. I will take the time to listen.”

Dr. Beverly Chang was born in Fremont, California and developed a fondness for interacting with older adults early in her training.

During medical school at UC Irvine, she founded the Geriatrics Interest Group, participated in research on elder abuse, and helped with the development of the geriatrics curriculum for medical students.

Dr. Chang completed her General Psychiatry residency at UCSF Fresno. She was selected chief resident during her fourth year of residency and was also named a Geriatric Mental Health Foundation Scholar by the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry. After residency, she went on to pursue advanced training at UC San Diego where she completed a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry.

She has extensive experience at inpatient, outpatient, nursing home and tele-health settings. Dr. Chang has co-authored literature on geriatrics education, palliative care and contributed to the latest edition of the Geriatric Psychiatry Self Assessment Program. During fellowship, she was involved with teaching medical students and was a presenter at the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry and American Psychiatric Association Conferences. She maintains her relationship with UCSF Fresno Memory and Alzheimer Center as a volunteer faculty member, performing mental health assessments in an interdisciplinary team setting.

When she is not working, Dr. Chang enjoys staying physically active and has completed several Spartan obstacle course races. She continues to tap dance and enjoys cooking for friends and family.
