Frequently Asked Questions

We look forward to treating you and your family. You can find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below. If you would like more information, please call our office at 916-303-4353 for our staff to assist you.

What is Direct Care?

Direct geriatric care is a new model for providing individualized mental health care through a convenient membership plan. This allows for more personalized treatment and more time to focus on the mental health needs of you or your family.

How are physicians at Geriatric Psychiatry Direct different?

Your physician will have advanced fellowship training in the field of geriatric psychiatry. In addition to being board certified in psychiatry, all physicians are board certified in geriatric psychiatry.

Is there a limit to the number of patients you see?

Yes. In order to provide the high quality, personalized and attentive care you can come to expect, we limit the number of patients in each physician panel. Whereas some psychiatrists may see up to 800 patients, we currently limit the number of patients in our physician panel to about 200 patients.
New prospective patients will be wait-listed and contacted as new patient openings become available.

Is there an age range of patients you see?

Our target population are individuals over 60 years old. Younger patients who wish to establish care can be assessed on an individual basis.

What kind of insurance do you accept?

We currently accept Medicare and Medicare Advantage insurance plans from Health Net, United Health Care and AARP Secure Horizons. Those without insurance can be seen with private pay. In addition, members will be responsible for a monthly membership fee and any co-pays required by insurance.

What are membership fees?

In order to provide our patients high quality, personalized and attentive care, patients will be assessed a monthly membership fee.

Your complete satisfaction is important to us, so you will only be assessed the membership fee the month AFTER you establish care as a patient. If you decide not to continue care, this fee will not be collected and only your insurance will be billed for the visit

How do I pay?

Membership fees can be paid by check from your checking account or by credit card.

What if I want to cancel membership?

You can cancel your membership at any time. Membership will be active through the end of the current month, and future months will no longer be billed.

How do I join?

We are glad you have decided to join our practice. Please click the Join Now tab at the top of this page and fill out the necessary information.

As a reminder, space is limited to about 200 patients per physician.
